‘The Routledge Companion to Popular Music History and Heritage’ by Sarah Baker, Catherine Strong, Lauren Istvandity and Zelmarie Cantillon
The Routledge Companion to Popular Music History and Heritage examines the social, cultural, political and economic value of popular music as history and heritage. The focus of the collection is on the relationship between popular music and the past, exploring how the changing nature of the past in post-industrial societies plays out in the field of popular music, for example through an increased emphasis on nostalgia, old music and old formats. It also examines questions of representation, inclusion and the way that power relations in broader society influence our understanding of the past.
